Leo and the Lightning Goldfish
Leo stared at the glass bowl on his nightstand. Inside, a tiny orange goldfish named Sparkle swam in endless circles. But tonight, something felt different.
Outside, a summer storm raged. Lightning flashed across the sky, making Leo's room glow bright white. Suddenly, Sparkle began to glow too!
"Impossible," Leo whispered, leaning closer.
The goldfish swam to the surface and—POP!—jumped right out of the bowl! But instead of flopping on the desk, Sparkle floated in the air, surrounded by tiny sparks like a miniature lightning storm.
"Leo!" said a tiny voice. "I need your help!"
"You can talk?" Leo gasped.
"Only during lightning storms," Sparkle explained. "I'm not really a goldfish. I'm a Lightning Sprite, cursed by a grumpy constellation bull named Taurus!"
Sparkle explained that long ago, the Great Bull in the sky had been lonely. He'd stolen all the lightning magic, keeping the sky dark and stormy forever. The only way to break the spell was to find the legendary Vitamin V—the Vitamin of Valor!
"Where do we find it?" Leo asked, eyes wide.
"In the Cloud Kingdom!" Sparkle said. "Take my fin!"
Leo touched Sparkle's glowing fin, and WHOOSH—they were flying out the window, zooming through the storm clouds!
The Cloud Kingdom was magical. Puffy castles floated everywhere. In the center stood the Great Bull, his horns crackling with stolen lightning. He guarded a glowing orange bottle—the Vitamin V!
"No one passes!" the Bull bellowed.
Leo's knees trembled, but he remembered his mother's words: *True courage isn't having no fear. It's doing what's right even when you're afraid.*
"Please, Mr. Bull," Leo called out. "You don't have to be lonely!"
The Bull paused. "What do you know about loneliness?"
Leo told him about wanting a brother, about moving to a new town, about having no friends yet. The Bull's expression softened.
"I only wanted someone to notice me," the Bull murmured.
"I notice you," Leo said simply. "And I'll be your friend."
The Bull's eyes filled with starry tears. He lowered his massive head and nudged the Vitamin V toward Leo.
"You already have the real magic, little one. The Vitamin of Valor was inside you all along—kindness is the greatest courage of all."
The lightning returned to the sky, creating a beautiful rainbow. Sparkle transformed into a tiny sprite with wings.
"Thank you, Leo!" Sparkle cheered. "You broke the curse!"
Leo floated back to his room, tucked into bed just as the storm passed. In the morning, his fishbowl was empty. But in its place sat a small orange scale that glowed whenever lightning flashed—a reminder that even the smallest person can have the biggest heart.
Sometimes, on stormy nights, Leo still sees a flash of gold in the sky and knows his friend is near, watching over him like a lightning guardian of the clouds.
