Leo and the Bear's Riddle Adventure

Leo pushed his plate away. 'I don't want spinach!' he complained. But his grandma just smiled and said, 'You never know what magic might be hiding in your vegetables.' Leo didn't believe her. He was too old for fairy tales. That night, he heard a scratching at his window. When he peeked outside, he couldn't believe his eyes — a small bear with twinkling blue eyes was tapping on the glass! 'Hello!' said the bear, whose name was Barnaby. 'I need your help. The Water Sphinx won't let me pass through the enchanted stream until I solve her riddle.' Leo, who loved puzzles, grabbed his jacket and followed Barnaby into the moonlit backyard. There, behind the old oak tree, a shimmering stream appeared. A beautiful sphinx made entirely of flowing water sat on a rock, her tail rippling like tiny waves. 'What runs but never walks,' she rumbled, 'has a mouth but never talks?' Barnaby scratched his fuzzy head. 'Is it a fish?' 'No,' said the sphinx. Leo thought hard. Then he remembered something from school. 'A river!' he exclaimed. The sphinx smiled, and her watery form sparkled with delight. 'Correct,' she said. 'You may pass.' But Barnaby looked worried. 'I came to fetch something for my family,' he explained. 'My little sister is sick, and only the magic spinach from the other side can cure her.' Leo's eyes widened. The magic spinach! Suddenly, his dinner didn't seem so bad after all. 'I'll help you find it!' Leo promised. Together, they crossed the stream and discovered a glowing garden where emerald spinach leaves shimmered like jewels. Barnaby gathered the magical plants while Leo helped fill a basket. 'Thank you, Leo,' Barnaby said, wrapping his furry arms around his new friend in a warm hug. 'You're the best friend a bear could ask for.' When Leo returned to his room, he found something strange on his pillow — a single sparkling spinach leaf. The next morning, he ate every bite of his spinach at breakfast. Grandma smiled, but she didn't say anything. Some magic is best kept secret between friends.
