Green Smoothie Disaster

Maya's palms were sweating. Literally sweating. She clutched her iPhone so hard it was practically vibrating, staring at Jake's profile picture for the millionth time. He'd finally replied to her DM, and now she was supposed to meet him at the community pool party.

"You're overthinking this again," her best friend Chloe had said earlier. "Just be chill. You're serving main character energy, Maya."

Easy for Chloe to say. She wasn't the one who'd accidentally posted her crush's name on her public story last week.

The pool party was already popping when Maya arrived. TikTok playlists bumping, everyone dancing, people doing TikTok challenges in the shallow end. And there was Jake, looking unfairly cute with wet hair and a black t-shirt that showed off his arms.

She froze. Her phone buzzed — Jake had posted an Instagram story. She opened it and OMG — he was holding a green smoothie with the caption "trying this health kick, pray for me."

The universe was giving her a sign. She sprinted to the snack bar, ignoring the confused looks, and ordered the same green monstrosity. The guy handed her a cup filled with what looked like liquefied grass.

"It's got spinach, kale, apple, and... honestly, I don't even know," he said.

Maya didn't care. This was her moment. She marched back to the pool, smoothie in hand, ready to casually mention how much she loved healthy stuff too.

Jake noticed her. "Maya! Hey!" He grinned. "Is that the same smoothie?"

"Yeah," she said, trying to sound casual. "I'm, like, obsessed with these. Health vibes only."

He laughed. "Dude, this stuff is nasty. I literally just spit it out in the bushes."

Before Maya could respond, her foot caught on something — probably the universe trying to save her from herself. The smoothie flew through the air in what was actually a perfect arc before splashing directly onto Jake's chest.

Dead silence.

Then someone yelled "GREEN BATH TIME!" and the whole pool erupted.

Maya wanted to die. She wanted to teleport to Mars. But Jake just looked down at his spinach-stained shirt and started laughing. Actually laughing.

"Okay," he said, wiping green goo from his chest. "That was iconic. You're coming in with me."

He grabbed her hand and jumped into the pool, pulling her in after him.

Later that night, Maya lay in bed staring at her ceiling. Jake had texted her: "Today was lowkey the best day ever. We need a round 2."

She fell asleep with a smile on her face and green smoothie residue still in her hair. Sometimes the most embarrassing moments turn into the best stories. And maybe being yourself — even when yourself is a clumsy disaster — is actually the whole point.
