Green Hair, Red Face

Maya stared at her reflection, fingers combing through shoulder-length brown hair that refused to cooperate. Tonight was Jordan's party—everyone who was anyone would be there, including Tyler, who'd finally noticed her in bio last week.

Her iphone buzzed with a TikTok notification: *DIY Hair Hacks That Actually Work*. Maya clicked, desperate for anything to make her stand out. The video claimed spinach could create subtle green highlights. Natural. Edgy. Totally something cool-girl-version-of-her would do.

"Perfect," Maya whispered, already brainstorming captions.

Forty minutes later, she'd blended an entire bag of spinach into a paste that smelled like a compost bin. Her bathroom looked like a crime scene. But as she rinsed, something felt wrong. The green wasn't subtle. It wasn't highlights.

It was everywhere.

Maya screamed.

Her hair was now the color of radioactive slime. Spinach dripped down her forehead, staining her skin. She grabbed her iphone, frantically searching for undo options, but TikTok offered only:*Maybe try leave-in conditioner next time?*

"Next TIME?!" Maya's voice cracked. "I have to be at Jordan's in an hour!"

She washed her hair six times. The green faded to... slightly less green. At this point, she had two choices: cancel and spend the night crying, or own it.

Maya grabbed her iphone again, opened Instagram, and posted a selfie with the caption: *experiment went wrong lol living my worst best life #newaesthetic*

By the time she arrived at Jordan's, half the party had already seen it.

"Maya!" Jordan ran over, eyes wide. "Your hair—it's actually kind of iconic?"

Tyler appeared beside her, grinning. "Yeah, looks like something straight from an anime. Sick."

Maya felt her face burn. But as she looked around, nobody was laughing at her. They were taking pictures. With her.

"Spinach disaster," she admitted, and everyone cracked up. "Never trusting TikTok again."

"But you OWNED it," Jordan said. "That's what's cool."

Later, Tyler sat beside her on the back porch. "So... wanna get boba tomorrow?"

Maya smiled, tucking a green strand behind her ear. "Only if you promise not to mention vegetables."

Her iphone lit up with new follower requests. The spinach hair might wash out eventually, but this confidence? That was staying.
