Freddie Fox's Baseball Surprise

Emma loved baseball more than anything. Every Saturday, she'd grab her glove and run to the park near the edge of the forest. But one sunny afternoon, her favorite baseball sailed over the fence and disappeared into the woods.

Emma peeked between the trees. "Hello?" she called softly. That's when she saw him—a rusty red fox with the brightest eyes she'd ever seen. But the most amazing thing? The fox was sitting on a tree stump, batting something back and forth with his paw. It was Emma's iphone, which had fallen from her pocket during the game!

Emma held her breath. The fox looked up, tilted his head, and actually smiled at her. He nudged the iphone toward her with his nose, then dashed deeper into the forest. He paused and looked back, as if inviting her to follow.

Emma knew she shouldn't go into the woods alone, but something about this fox felt special. Like he was magical. She grabbed her iphone and followed.

They came to a clearing where other forest animals were gathered—rabbits, squirrels, birds, even a deer. In the center was a perfect circle of moss. The fox batted a pinecone with his tail. It flew through the air and landed right next to a rabbit's feet. The rabbit hopped and grabbed it, then threw it to a squirrel. They were playing baseball!

Emma watched in wonder. The fox spotted her and trotted over. He nudged her baseball toward her. "You want to play?" Emma whispered. The fox nodded.

For an hour, Emma played baseball with foxes and rabbits. It was the most magical game she'd ever experienced. The fox was fast and clever, always knowing exactly where the ball would land. Emma laughed until her sides hurt.

As the sun began to set, Emma knew she had to go home. She petted the fox's soft red fur. "I'll come back next Saturday," she promised. "Will you be here?" The fox nudged her hand with his warm nose.

Emma walked home with her iphone and baseball, her heart full of magic. That night, she turned off her phone and left it on her dresser. Some adventures were better than any game or screen. The best kind of magic happened when you looked up from your phone and really saw the wonderful world around you.
