Fiona Fox's Golden Friend
Fiona Fox was the most curious fox in the Whispering Woods. Every evening, while other foxes slept, she found herself running toward the old Miller farm, drawn by something magical.
At the farm sat a round glass bowl, and inside it swam the most beautiful goldfish Fiona had ever seen. His scales shimmered like tiny coins dancing in sunlight. Fiona would peek through the garden fence, watching him glide through the water.
"I'm not spying," she told herself. "I'm just... observing with interest."
One night, a soft voice called out. "Hello, little fox."
Fiona jumped! The goldfish was floating near the surface, his gills moving gently.
"You can talk?" she whispered.
"Of course!" said the goldfish. "I'm Gilbert. You've been visiting me for weeks."
Fiona crept closer. "I'm Fiona. I've never seen a goldfish like you. You look like you're made of sunshine."
Gilbert laughed. "And you're the first fox who didn't want to eat me!"
They talked all night. Fiona told Gilbert about running through meadows and chasing butterflies. Gilbert described swimming among coral kingdoms and dancing with pearls. But Gilbert looked sad.
"What's wrong?" Fiona asked.
"This bowl is lonely," Gilbert said. "I dream of rivers."
Fiona's heart squeezed. She knew what she had to do. Carefully, she nudged the bowl toward the garden stream. Gilbert slipped out, and suddenly — FLASH!
Gilbert grew fins like rainbow wings, flowing like silk ribbons. He wasn't just a goldfish anymore. He was a RIVER KING!
"Thank you, friend," Gilbert said. "I'll never forget you."
Fiona watched her golden friend swim away, free at last.
Every spring, a magnificent goldfish visits the woods, and a certain fox runs to greet him. Some friendships are wilder than any story, and stronger than any spell.
