Finn's Green Magic
Finn was a small orange fox with very big ears and an even bigger appetite. He loved berries. He loved fish. He loved crunchy beetles. But there was one thing Finn absolutely would not eat—spinach.
"Yuck!" Finn wrinkled his nose every time his mother placed the leafy greens on his plate. "Foxes don't eat leaves. That's what rabbits eat."
One sunny morning, Finn was exploring deep in the Whispering Woods when he heard something. A tiny squeak.
He followed the sound to a stream, where a little hedgehog named Pip was stuck on a rock, surrounded by rushing water. The current was too strong for Pip to swim across.
"Help!" Pip cried. "I need to get home to my family!"
Finn wanted to help, but the rock was too far to jump, and the water was moving too fast for even a swift fox. He sat down, thinking hard. His stomach growled. In his pouch, he had some snacks—berries, fish, and the spinach sandwich his mother had packed.
Finn took a bite of the sandwich and wrinkled his nose. But he was so hungry that he kept eating. Something strange happened. A warm, tingly feeling spread through his paws. His fur shimmered with a soft green glow.
Suddenly, Finn felt light as a feather. He hopped—and didn't come down! He floated upward, then gently glided across the stream right to Pip's rock.
"Whoa!" Pip gasped. "You're flying!"
"It's the spinach!" Finn realized. He grabbed Pip gently and carried them both back to solid ground, where they landed softly.
"You're my hero!" Pip said. "Can we be friends?"
Finn smiled, his green glow fading but his heart full. "Yes, friend. And tomorrow, I'll bring you some spinach. It might just give you magic too."
That evening, Finn asked his mother for seconds of spinach. Maybe rabbits were onto something after all.
