Finley's Midnight Mission
Finley was no ordinary goldfish. While other fish spent their days swimming lazy circles, Finley had a secret — he was a spy.
Every night, after his owner Emma went to sleep, Finley would press his orange nose against the glass and watch over the house. His tiny fins would stand at attention as he listened carefully for any trouble.
One rainy Tuesday, something felt wrong. Finley heard water running in the bathroom for a very long time. His fishy instincts tingled.
"Emma never takes this long," Finley whispered to himself. "Something must be wrong!"
He wiggled his sparkly tail and concentrated very hard. Suddenly, he felt himself growing smaller and smaller until *pop!* He slipped right through a crack in his bowl and landed on the carpet with a gentle plop.
Finley was running down the hallway on his little fish legs (which only appeared on special missions) when he heard soft sniffles coming from the bathroom. He peeked around the doorframe and saw Emma sitting on the floor, crying next to a leaky faucet.
"I can't fix it," she sobbed. "Mom and Dad are away, and the water keeps dripping."
Finley knew what to do. He was a spy, after all! He scurried over to the toolbox and pushed a wrench toward Emma's foot. Then he nudged a towel closer to dry the puddle.
Emma looked up, startled. Through her tears, she saw something shining near her hand — her lucky wrench she'd been looking for! And a towel perfectly placed to catch the drips!
"Thank you, whoever helped me," Emma whispered, wiping her eyes. She tightened the faucet until the dripping stopped. The bathroom grew peaceful again.
Finley smiled his secret fish smile and hurried back to his room just as the first morning light peeked through the curtains. With a tiny splash, he popped back into his bowl.
The next morning, Emma tapped on the glass. "You're my lucky fish, Finley," she said, dropping in an extra treat. "I don't know how, but I think you helped me."
Finley just blew a satisfied bubble and swam a happy circle. Being a spy was hard work, but helping friends was the best mission of all.
And that night, when everyone else was sleeping, Finley the goldfish spy kept watch, ready for his next adventure.
