Fin's Secret Mission
Timmy loved his pet goldfish, Fin, more than anything in the world. Every afternoon after school, he'd sit by the blue bowl on his dresser and watch Fin swim in graceful circles. But Timmy had a secret. Sometimes, late at night when the moon glowed through his window, he could hear Fin whispering.
"Timmy! Psst! Timmy!" the tiny voice would bubble.
Tonight was the big baseball championship. Timmy's team, the Shooting Stars, was playing against the Thunderbolts. But something strange was happening. Every time Timmy practiced in his backyard, he felt like someone was watching him from behind the old oak tree.
"Fin," Timmy whispered to his fish that night, "I think there's a spy at my baseball games!"
Fin's scales shimmered like rainbow stars. "A spy? That's serious business, Timmy! I can help you. Goldfish have special powers—we can see things humans can't."
The next day, Fin swam in a special portable bowl that Timmy's mom carefully packed. During the championship game, while Timmy stood in the outfield, he noticed something glittering behind the oak tree. Someone was taking notes!
Fin bubbled excitedly. "That's no ordinary spy, Timmy! Look closely!"
Timmy squinted. The spy was wearing a Thunderbolts cap and holding a telescope, writing down every pitch Timmy's teammates threw. But then the spy spotted Timmy looking and started to run.
"Follow him!" Fin bubbled.
Timmy chased the spy all the way to the playground, where the spy tripped and dropped a notebook. Papers scattered everywhere—drawings of all the Shooting Stars' secret plays!
"I'm sorry!" the spy cried. It was a girl named Mia from the other school. "I just really wanted to win. My dad says baseball is everything."
Timmy looked at Fin, who swam in gentle circles. "Winning isn't everything," Timmy said. "Want to learn how to play instead of spying? We can show you our secret techniques."
Mia's eyes widened. "Really?"
"Really," Timmy smiled. "And maybe next season, you can be on our team. The Shooting Stars could use someone who notices details like you do."
That afternoon, the Thunderbolts won fair and square, but something better happened. Timmy made a new friend, and Fin swam prouder than any goldfish ever had. That night, Fin whispered, "Being a spy isn't about secrets, Timmy. It's about seeing the truth—that friendship is better than winning."
Timmy grinned. His goldfish was the smartest spy he knew.
