Electric Summer Nights

The backyard was basically a scene from a movie. Mr. Henderson's pool glowed with underwater lights, casting weird blue shadows across everyone's faces. I stood there clutching my Solo cup like it was a lifeline,心跳 racing for no reason.

"You doing the human pyramid or what?" Tyler called out, already waist-deep in the water. He had that look—the one that made you feel like saying no would somehow ruin your entire social existence.

"Obviously," I lied, putting my cup down on the patio table. My hands were shaking slightly, which was ridiculous. It's not like I'd never been swimming before. But something about tonight felt different. Maybe because Chloe was there, watching from the pool edge with her friends, looking effortlessly perfect in her bikini while I was overthinking everything.

We climbed onto each other's shoulders in the shallow end, six of us forming this wobbly, ridiculous structure. Someone made a joke about how this was definitely not covered by their dad's insurance. We all laughed, nerves mixed with adrenaline.

Then it happened—a crack of **lightning** split the sky overhead, making everything go white for a second. Before anyone could process it, the pyramid collapsed. We went down in this chaotic tangle of limbs and splash, everyone resurfacing laughing and splashing water at each other like nothing had happened.

But under the **water**, for those few seconds, something clicked. Nobody actually cared if we looked cool or not. Tyler was just trying to make everyone laugh. Chloe wasn't judging anyone—she was just chilling with her friends. All the pressure I'd been feeling, it was all in my head.

"Who wants pizza?" someone yelled from the patio.

"Me," I said, pushing wet hair out of my eyes. "Definitely me."

Later that night, I sat on the porch with everyone, eating cold pizza and watching another storm roll in. The real lightning flashed across the sky, but this time I didn't overthink it. I just watched. Some moments you can't plan for. Sometimes you just gotta jump in the pool and figure it out as you go.
