Electric Blue Night
Maya stood at the edge of the **pool**, clutching her towel like armor. The Friday night party was already in full swing — kids from sophomore year splashing around, music bumping, and somewhere, someone was definitely vaping behind the garage. Her **hair** had decided to stage a rebellion, curling into frizzy chaos despite three different products she'd tried that morning.
"Yo Maya! You coming in or what?" Jake called from the water. He had that perfect swimmer's body and somehow his hair looked good wet.
"Yeah, just... gotta fix something," she mumbled, turning toward the house instead.
A sudden crack of **lightning** split the sky. The entire pool area went silent for a split second before everyone screamed and scrambled for cover. Rain began hammering down, turning the carefully planned party into chaos.
Maya dashed for the covered patio, but someone grabbed her arm. It was Chloe, the quiet girl from her English class who always sat in the back.
"Come here," Chloe said, pulling her toward the side gate. "There's something you gotta see."
In the backyard next door, a **fox** stood frozen in the rain, its coat glowing orange against the dark grass. It looked at them with ancient, knowing eyes before darting under the fence.
"No way," Maya breathed. "That's actually sick."
Chloe grinned. "Right? I've been trying to get a pic for weeks. By the way, your hair looks awesome like that. It's got volume."
Maya blinked. "Seriously?"
"Dead serious. Mine's just... there." Chloe ran a hand through her perfectly straight blonde hair. "Boring, right?"
The rain poured harder, and suddenly they were both laughing, soaked to the bone, hair ruined, watching as Jake and everyone else scrambled to save snacks from the downpour. For the first time all night, Maya didn't feel like the awkward girl at the pool party. She felt like someone who'd just seen a fox in a rainstorm with the coolest person she'd never actually talked to.
"Hey," Chloe said as the thunder rolled again. "You wanna get boba tomorrow? My treat."
Maya's smile was genuine. "I'd actually love that."
