Curly Hair and the Water Sphinx
Sophie loved her wild, curly hair. It bounced when she walked and fuzzed like a dandelion when she ran. One hot afternoon, she followed a butterfly deep into the woods until she found something magical—a pond with water that sparkled like blue diamonds.
resting by the water was a sphinx. But not a scary stone one like in books. This sphinx had soft golden fur, bright green eyes, and tiny wings that fluttered nervously. He looked lonely.
"Hello," Sophie whispered.
The sphinx jumped. "Oh! You can see me?"
"Of course I can see you! You're beautiful!"
The sphinx blushed. "I'm Sunny. I'm new here. I'm supposed to be the guardian of this magic water, but I'm not very good at it yet. The water keeps trying to flow away, and I can't make it stay."
Sophie knelt by the pond. Her curly hair dipped into the water, and the strangest thing happened—her curls started glowing! The magic water made her hair shimmer like tiny stars.
"Your hair!" Sunny gasped. "It's magical!"
Sophie laughed. "It's just hair!"
"No, it's perfect!" Sunny said excitedly. "The water needs something to hold it in place. Your curls can trap the magic!"
So Sophie lay on the grass and let her curly hair float in the water. Her curls acted like a soft net, keeping the magic water from flowing away. The more she laughed, the more her hair glowed, and the more magic stayed in the pond.
"We make a great team!" Sunny said.
Every day after school, Sophie visited Sunny. She learned that being different—having wild hair, being a small sphinx—was actually wonderful. Sometimes the very things that make us unusual are what make us perfect friends.
And if you ever find water that sparkles unusually blue, look for a sphinx with green eyes. They might be waiting for a friend with magical hair to help them save the day.
