Cora's Sky-Swimming Hair
Cora had the most extraordinary hair in all of Willow Creek. It wasn't just long and curly—it changed color with her feelings! Pink when she was happy, blue when she was calm, purple when she was excited. And when she played baseball, her hair turned sparkling gold.
One hot summer afternoon, Cora stepped up to the plate. The Sunnyville Suns were winning 7-6, and the championship game came down to her. The pitcher threw the baseball—it sailed higher and higher, impossibly high, beyond the fence, toward the clouds!
"Go, Cora!" shouted her best friend Maya from the dugout.
Cora's golden hair began to glow. She ran—and suddenly, she wasn't running anymore. She was swimming through the air! Her hair flowed behind her like water, sparkling with tiny stars. Each stroke through the warm sky felt like swimming through a magical river.
"I'm really swimming!" Cora laughed, flipping in the air. The clouds tickled her fingers as she soared higher, chasing the baseball. It glowed ahead of her, shining like a tiny moon.
Then something magical happened. The baseball spoke!
"Catch me, and I'll grant your team a wish," the ball twinkled.
Cora's hair flashed rainbow colors. "I wish for everyone to have fun, no matter who wins!"
The baseball burst into a hundred golden butterflies that danced around the field. Both teams watched in wonder, laughing as the butterflies landed on their caps. Cora gently floated back to the ground, her hair now a soft, happy pink.
"What was the score again?" someone asked.
Nobody remembered. And nobody cared. They all played baseball until sunset, swimming through the grass, sliding in joy, their own hair shimmering with happiness.
From that day on, whenever anyone in Willow Creek played baseball, the sky would sparkle with golden butterflies. Cora's hair still changed colors, but her favorite shade was pink—the color of friendship and fun.
