Chaos Theory
Maya's fingers trembled as she adjusted the ring light. Her first livestream in five minutes.
"You got this," she whispered to herself, though her stomach did backflips. Three weeks of planning. Perfect outfit. Perfect backdrop. Perfect everything.
Then her **iphone** screen went black.
"No, no, NO." Maya scrambled for the charging **cable**, her heart hammering. The frayed wire—she'd meant to replace it—chose NOW to give up the ghost. 12% battery, tumbling toward zero.
She bolted downstairs, searching for her brother's spare charger. Instead, she found Barnaby, her grandmother's ancient orange tabby, sprawled across the living room rug like a fuzzy rug himself. He fixed her with his judgmental yellow eyes.
"Not helping, cat."
Barnaby stretched, yawned, and proceeded to knock over the vase of tulips with zero remorse. Water everywhere. Glass everywhere. Maya's carefully curated content dreams, everywhere.
"ARE YOU KIDDING ME."
She dropped to her knees, sobbing. Not about the vase. About everything. The pressure to be perfect online when she felt like a dumpster fire inside. The followers who only liked her filtered, fake-happy version. The loneliness behind the aesthetic.
A wet nose nudged her arm. Barnaby, somehow sensing her breakdown, curled into her lap, purring like a tiny motorboat. Maya buried her face in his orange fur, letting the tears come.
"You're a jerk," she whispered. "But you're a good jerk."
Her phone buzzed. 3%.
Maya swiped her face, grabbed the phone, and hit GO LIVE without thinking. No ring light. No backdrop. No filter. Just her, red-eyed and messy, with a ridiculous orange cat on her lap.
"Hey guys," she said, voice cracking. "So... today's not perfect. But honestly? Neither am I."
Barnaby chose that moment to sneeze directly on the camera.
The comments exploded.
omg REAL
finally someone being honest
this cat is my spirit animal
Maya laughed—really laughed. The livestream wasn't what she planned. It was better.
Sometimes chaos beats perfection every time.
