Buster's Golden Discovery

Max loved his dog Buster more than anything. Buster was a scruffy brown terrier with floppy ears and a nose that could sniff out adventure anywhere.

One Saturday morning, Max's dad handed him a small orange bottle. "Your daily vitamin, Max! It'll help you grow strong for the big game today."

Max gulped it down, then grabbed his baseball glove. Today was the championship! But as he ran outside, something strange happened. Buster started digging furiously in the garden, barking excitedly.

"What is it, boy?" Max asked.

Buster pulled something from the dirt—a baseball, but not just any baseball. It glowed with golden light!

Max picked it up and gasped. The baseball felt warm, like sunshine. When he squeezed it, sparkling dust floated into the air. Suddenly, he could understand Buster!

"Max!" Buster said. "This is a Magic Baseball from the Land of Play! It grants one wish to a child and their faithful dog who truly love each other."

Max's eyes widened. "Really? Then I wish..." But then he paused. His team needed one more player to have enough for the game. His friend Emma was sick and couldn't play. They might have to forfeit.

"I wish Emma could play baseball with us today!"

The baseball blazed brighter than the sun. When Max could see again, Emma stood in her yard across the street, feeling perfectly well, holding her own glove.

"Max!" she called. "I feel great! Want to practice before the game?"

The magical baseball floated into the air and dissolved into hundreds of golden butterflies that filled the sky.

"Thank you, Buster!" Max hugged his dog tight.

Buster licked his face. "That's what friends do, Max—they help each other. And sometimes, magic just needs a little love to work."

That day, Max's team won the championship. But Max knew the real victory wasn't the trophy. It was having a best friend who could make magic happen.
