Buster's Big Hit
Max the dog and Whiskers the cat were the best of friends in Meadowville. They did everything together – chased butterflies, shared sunny naps, and played their favorite game: baseball in Farmer Joe's field.
Every Saturday, children gathered with their gloves and bats. Max and Whiskers watched from the fence, dreaming of joining the fun. But they weren't the only ones watching.
Behind the old red barn lived Buster, a enormous bull with kind brown eyes and the gentlest heart. Buster loved baseball too, though he'd never played. The other cows laughed at him. "Bulls don't play baseball!" they said. But Buster watched every game, his hooves tapping quietly along the fence.
One Saturday, the children needed one more player. Tommy had fallen and scraped his knee, and his team was short. Max and Whiskers looked at each other, then at Buster.
"Buster could play!" barked Max.
"But he's so big!" worried Whiskers. "What if he breaks something?"
Buster hung his head. "I'll just watch..."
"No!" said Max, trotting over. "Everyone deserves a chance. Come on!"
The children were nervous. A bull playing baseball? But Max and Whiskers showed them how brave they were by standing beside Buster. The children agreed to let him try.
Buster stepped to the plate, his hooves huge around the small bat. The pitcher threw the ball – and Buster swung!
CRACK!
The ball soared higher than any ball had ever flown, over the barn, across the creek, and into the next county! The children gasped. Max and Whiskers jumped with joy. Buster had hit the longest home run in Meadowville history!
"BULL'S-EYE!" shouted everyone.
From that day on, Buster was the team's hero. Max, Whiskers, and Buster played baseball together every weekend, teaching everyone that true friendship means giving everyone a chance, no matter how big or different they might be.
And the best part? Buster's special talent became known as the "Buster Knock" – a hit so powerful it could clear the county!
Sometimes the most wonderful surprises come from the most unexpected friends.
