Bruno and the Storm's Light
Bruno was a small brown bear with very big dreams. Every summer evening, he would sit by the edge of Silver Lake and watch the other bears splash and play. But Bruno had a secret - he was afraid of water.
"I wish I could go swimming," he sighed, watching his sister Maya do cannonballs into the lake.
"But Bruno," said Maya, climbing out and shaking water from her fur, "you're a bear! Bears love to swim!"
"Not all bears," Bruno mumbled, padding back to their cozy cave.
That night, a storm rolled over the mountains. Thunder rumbled like a hungry tummy, and then - FLASH! - lightning lit up the whole sky.
Bruno hid under his blanket. But then he saw something amazing. Outside the cave entrance, the lightning was striking the lake, and for just a moment, the water looked like it was glowing with tiny stars.
The next morning, Bruno crept to the lake. He remembered how the lightning had made the water sparkle like magic. Maybe, just maybe, if the water could hold lightning's magic, it couldn't be so scary.
He dipped one paw in. Then another. The water felt like a cool hug. Bruno took a deep breath and - SPLASH! - he was in!
Maya came running. "Bruno! You're swimming!"
"I'm doing it!" Bruno cheered, paddling around. "The lake is beautiful, isn't it?"
"It sure is," Maya agreed. "But what made you brave enough to try?"
Bruno smiled. "Last night, the lightning showed me that even water can hold magic. And if water can be magical, then maybe I can be brave too."
From that day on, Bruno swam every day, and whenever he saw lightning during a storm, he would wave thank you to the sky for giving him courage to try something new.
Sometimes the scariest things can become the most wonderful adventures - you just have to take that first splash.
