Bolt the Lightning Spy Dog

Leo loved stormy afternoons. His golden retriever Bolt would sit by the window, tail thumping, watching the sky turn dark purple. When lightning flashed, Bolt's fur would stand up like he was magical.

One rainy afternoon, the biggest lightning bolt Leo had ever seen struck their backyard. BOOM! When Leo ran outside, he found Bolt near the oak tree, glowing softly.

"I'm a Lightning Spy," Bolt said, and Leo gasped—his dog could talk!

"I swim through storm clouds," Bolt explained, "collecting lightning drops to power the stars. But today I dropped my favorite glowing stone in Thunder Creek. Can you help me get it back?"

Leo nodded vigorously. Swimming sounded exciting! Bolt tapped his paw, and suddenly Leo could breathe underwater.

Together they slipped into Thunder Creek. The water shimmered with tiny lightning bolts, like golden fish swimming around them. Fish made of rainbows darted past.

"There!" Bolt pointed. His glowing stone rested on a mossy rock, pulsing with gentle light.

But a grumpy old turtle sat on it. "This lights up my home," he said.

Leo thought quickly. "What if we visit every month? We could bring new lightning drops to keep your cave bright!"

The turtle smiled. "That would be kind."

Bolt retrieved his stone, and the turtle waved goodbye. When they emerged from the creek, the storm had passed. A magnificent rainbow arched across the sky.

"Now we're partners," Bolt said, nudging Leo's hand. "Lightning Spies together."

Leo beamed. Some secrets were magical, especially the ones shared with your best friend.
