Bolt's Midnight Mission

Emma loved her golden retriever, Bolt, but she never knew his secret until the night of the big storm.

Bolt seemed like an ordinary dog. He chased tennis balls, napped in sunny spots, and begged for treats. But Emma noticed he always disappeared during thunderstorms.

One night, lightning flashed so bright it lit up her whole room. Emma peeked through her curtains and gasped. There was Bolt, standing in the backyard, wearing something shiny around his neck. A tiny collar with a glowing blue stone!

"Bolt?" she whispered.

The dog froze. His ears drooped. But then another lightning strike revealed something amazing—two tiny creatures, no bigger than Emma's thumb, were perched on his back. They had iridescent wings like dragonflies.

"You weren't supposed to see this," the smaller creature said in a chime-like voice.

Emma's eyes widened. "You can talk?"

"We're the Lightning Guardians," said the taller one. "Bolt is our best spy. He watches over the neighborhood, making sure lightning doesn't hurt anyone."

Bolt nudged Emma's hand with his wet nose. His tail thumped guiltily against the grass.

"Every storm, I help them," the dog seemed to say with his gentle brown eyes. "I guide the lightning away from houses and trees."

Emma's fear of storms vanished. "That's amazing! Can I help?"

The Lightning Guardians considered this. Then they smiled. "Tonight's almost done. But next storm... perhaps."

From then on, Emma waited eagerly for thunder. She learned that even ordinary friends can have extraordinary secret missions. And sometimes, the best adventures happen right in your own backyard, if you just look closely enough.

Now when lightning streaks across the sky, Emma smiles. She knows Bolt and his tiny friends are out there, keeping everyone safe.
