Bernie's Papaya Surprise
Bernie the bear loved baseball more than anything in the forest. Every Saturday, all the animals gathered at the sunny meadow to play. Bernie was the best pitcher in Pine Forest, though his fluffy paws sometimes made it tricky to grip the ball.
One hot afternoon, Bernie felt tired. His arms were heavy, and he couldn't throw fast. His friend Lila the fox noticed him sitting under the oak tree, looking sad.
"What's wrong, Bernie?" she asked, twitching her nose.
"I don't have energy for the big game today," Bernie sighed. "Maybe I should just watch."
Lila's eyes sparkled. "I know something that will help! Come with me!"
She led Bernie through the forest, past the sparkling creek where ducks were swimming and splashing in the cool water. The sunshine made the ripples dance like tiny diamonds.
"Where are we going?" Bernie asked.
"To my secret garden," Lila said mysteriously.
They reached a hidden clearing filled with magical plants. In the center grew the most beautiful fruit Bernie had ever seen—a glowing papaya the size of a beach ball!
"This is a special papaya," Lila explained. "It's full of sunshine vitamin magic. One bite gives you all the energy you need!"
Bernie took a bite. It was the sweetest, most delicious thing he had ever tasted! Golden warmth spread through his whole body. His paws tingled with energy. He felt like he could run around the entire forest!
"Thank you, Lila!" Bernie cheered, hugging his friend gently.
At the baseball game that afternoon, Bernie pitched better than ever before. He threw strikes so fast the ball whistled through the air! His teammates cheered, and even the other team clapped.
After the game, Bernie told all the animals about the magical papaya patch. Now, whenever anyone feels tired, they visit Lila's garden for a special vitamin treat.
Bernie learned that wonderful friends and healthy food give you the strength to do your best. And every time he sees ducks swimming in the creek, he remembers the day Lila helped him become the happiest bear in Pine Forest.
