Bernie's Palm Tree Secret
Bernie was a small brown bear with curious eyes and the biggest heart in the forest. Every morning, he would waddle to his favorite spot — a crystal-clear pond beneath the swaying palm trees. The sun would dance across the water, making it sparkle like diamonds.
One particularly warm afternoon, Bernie noticed something extraordinary. A tiny goldfish with scales as bright as orange sunshine was swimming near the surface, following his shadow. Bernie sat very still, his fuzzy paws dangling in the cool water.
"Hello, little friend," Bernie whispered.
The goldfish popped her head above the water and spoke! "Hello, Bernie! I've been waiting for someone kind enough to notice me."
Bernie's eyes grew wide. "You can talk?"
"My name is Sunny," the goldfish said, splashing playfully. "I'm a magical fish who can make small wishes come true. But only for bears with pure hearts."
Bernie thought carefully. He could wish for all the honey in the world, or a cozy cave filled with soft moss. But he remembered his friend Lily, a little bird who couldn't fly because her wing was hurt.
"I wish for my friend Lily to fly again," Bernie said softly.
Sunny's scales glowed golden, and ripples spread across the pond. The air around them shimmered like magic dust.
"Your wish is granted, Bernie," Sunny said. "You wished for someone else instead of yourself. That's the most powerful magic of all."
The next morning, Bernie returned to the palm tree by the water. There was Lily, soaring through the sky, her wing completely healed! She swooped down to give Bernie a gentle hug with her wings.
"Thank you, Bernie!" she chirped.
Bernie smiled, watching Sunny swim happily beneath the palm leaves. He had discovered something more precious than honey or a perfect cave — the magic of kindness and friendship. And that, he decided, was the greatest treasure of all.
