Bernie's Magical Monday

Bernie was a small bear with a very big problem. Every morning, he had to climb the steep mountain using the rusty old cable car to get to school, but the cable always got stuck halfway up.

One sunny Monday, the cable jerked to a halt just as Bernie spotted something shiny in the river below. A beautiful goldfish with scales like tiny sunsets was swimming in circles, looking worried.

"Hello!" Bernie called down. "Do you need help?"

The goldfish popped her head above water. "Oh, thank goodness! I'm Goldie, and I'm supposed to deliver magic spinach to the Mountain Fairy, but I can't find the path!"

Bernie's eyes grew wide. "Magic spinach? I know where that grows! My grandmother showed me the secret patch behind the waterfall last summer."

Goldie did a happy flip in the air. "Will you help me? The fairy needs it by sunset, or the mountain's rainbow will disappear forever!"

Bernie didn't hesitate. He grabbed his backpack and shimmied down the cable like a monkey. Together, they hiked through whispering forests and across bubbling streams until they reached the hidden spinach patch – where the leaves glowed with tiny sparkles.

"That's it!" Goldie cheered. "You saved the rainbow!"

When they delivered the spinach, the Mountain Fairy was so delighted that she granted Bernie one wish. He could have asked for anything – endless honey, a new cable car, or even wings.

Instead, Bernie smiled and said, "I wish that Goldie and I could be best friends forever."

The Fairy twinkled. "The best wish is the one that helps others. From now on, the cable will never break when you ride it, and Goldie can visit you anytime."

And that's how Bernie learned that the greatest magic isn't in spinach or wishes – it's in kindness and friendship. Now every morning, he rides the cable car with Goldie swimming beside him in the river below, and together they watch the rainbow paint the sky with colors that only true friends can see.
