Bernie's Lightning Gift
In a cozy cave deep in the Emerald Forest, Bernie the bear woke up with a great big yawn. His tummy rumbled like distant thunder. Bernie was not an ordinary bear—he had a special job. Every spring, he helped the forest animals wake up from their long winter naps.
One sunny morning, a little rabbit named Tilly hopped to Bernie's cave. "Bernie!" she cried. "The baby birds are still sleeping! The sun is warm, but they won't wake up!"
Bernie scratched his fuzzy head. "Let me investigate." He lumbered through the forest, his big paws leaving soft prints in the moss. When he reached the tallest oak tree, he saw three tiny birds still tucked in their nest, snoring away.
"Wake up, little friends," Bernie cooed gently. But the birds just kept snoring.
Tilly looked worried. "My grandmother said they need something special. Something magical and bright."
Bernie's eyes twinkled. He remembered a secret. High on the mountain, where storm clouds danced, lived the Sky Spirit. She captured bits of lightning in beautiful glass jars during thunderstorms. And she mixed each lightning jar with a special ingredient—a glowing drop of morning sunshine vitamin.
"I'll climb to the top!" Bernie declared.
The journey was long. Bernie climbed over rocks and scrambled up steep paths. His thick fur kept him warm as the air grew chilly. Finally, he reached the peak where the Sky Spirit's cottage sat among the clouds.
"Please," Bernie asked with his politest voice. "I need a drop of lightning vitamin to wake three sleeping birds."
The Sky Spirit smiled like the dawn. She held out her palm, and a tiny jar appeared. Inside, a spark of lightning swirled with golden drops—pure sunshine vitamins!
"Take this," she said. "Share it with love."
Bernie carefully carried the glowing jar back down the mountain. His heart beat fast with hope. What if it didn't work?
At the oak tree, Bernie held the jar near the nest. Tilly and all the forest animals gathered around, watching quietly. Bernie tipped the jar ever so gently.
A single glowing drop fell onto each baby bird's beak—pop, pop, pop!
Suddenly, the birds' eyes opened wide! They chirped with joy, their feathers sparkling as if tiny lightning bolts danced across them. All the animals cheered!
"Thank you, Bernie!" the birds sang. "We're awake! We're awake!"
That night, as Bernie curled up in his cave, he felt warm and happy. Helping friends was the best adventure of all. And sometimes, he thought as he drifted to sleep, the most powerful magic comes from kindness mixed with a little bit of lightning.
