Bernie's Friendship Potion
Bernie was a small brown bear with very big dreams. While other bears spent their days fishing for salmon, Bernie wanted to be a magician. Every morning, he would practice his spells behind the waterfall that sparkled like diamonds in the sunlight.
One day, Bernie discovered something special about the waterfall's **water**. When the moonlight hit it just right, the water glowed with a soft blue light. "This must be magic water!" Bernie squealed with delight. He filled his favorite wooden bowl with the shimmering liquid.
Bernie wanted to make a friendship potion so all the forest animals would be his friends. He added **vitamin** C from wild oranges, a pinch of sweet honey, three soft feathers from a blue jay, and a handful of four-leaf clovers for good luck. He stirred it twenty times, just like the ancient spellbook said.
But something was wrong. The potion turned purple and started bubbling. "Oh no!" Bernie cried. The potion spilled over and splashed into the pond below.
Out of the pond swam Glimmer, a tiny **goldfish** with scales that changed color like a rainbow. "That was quite a show!" Glimmer giggled, swimming in happy circles. "But you know, Bernie, you don't need magic to make friends."
Bernie's ears drooped. "But I'm just a regular bear. I'm not special like the magical creatures in storybooks."
Glimmer swam closer. "You're not just a bear. You're the bear who tried to make a friendship potion. That's pretty special! And I think it worked — we're friends now, aren't we?"
Bernie's eyes grew wide. Glimmer was right! In trying to make friends, he had already made one. The real magic wasn't in any potion. It was in being kind, trying your best, and believing in yourself.
From that day on, Bernie didn't need magic tricks. He and Glimmer had adventures together every day. Bernie learned that being yourself is the greatest magic of all, and true friendship is the most wonderful treasure anyone could ever find.
And sometimes, when the moonlight hit the waterfall just right, the water would glow blue — as if winking at Bernie, reminding him that magic had been there all along, right inside his heart.
