Benny Bear's Baseball Splash

Benny Bear sat behind the old oak tree, watching the children play baseball every afternoon. His fuzzy brown ears twitched with excitement every time the bat went CRACK! He dreamed of joining their game, but bears don't play baseball. Or do they?

One sunny Tuesday, Tommy hit the ball so hard it soared over the pond and disappeared with a SPLASH! The children gasped. None of them could swim across the deep water to reach it.

Benny's heart pounded. He could help! But he'd never liked water – it was wet and scary and made his fur all soggy. Yet looking at Tommy's sad face, Benny knew what he had to do.

Taking a deep breath, Benny lumbered toward the pond. His big bear feet touched the cool water first. Then his legs, then his tummy. Surprisingly, the water felt refreshing! He started paddling with all four paws, and suddenly he was swimming!

The children cheered from the shore. Benny felt like the most magnificent bear in the whole forest. He dove underwater, bubbles rising around him, and spotted the shiny white baseball resting on the sandy bottom.

When Benny emerged with the ball triumphantly held aloft, the children erupted in applause. That afternoon, something magical happened – the children invited Benny to play baseball! They even invented special rules just for him.

Every day after school, you could find Benny running around the bases (sometimes he forgot where first base was, but nobody minded), and afterwards, they'd all go swimming together in the pond.

Benny learned that trying new things, even scary ones, can lead to wonderful adventures. And sometimes the best friends are the ones you least expect – especially when one is a bear who loves baseball!
