Bear Pool Party Meltdown
Maya's vintage bucket **hat** sat pulled low over her face, practically screaming *don't notice me* as she hovered at the edge of the **pool** party. Jordan's backyard was basically a social war zone - the popular crew clustered around the deep end like they owned the chlorine, while Maya texted her group chat for moral support.
*You got this,* Maya typed, though her thumbs were shaking. Her **iphone** battery was at 8%, which felt like some kind of cosmic metaphor for her social energy.
Then it happened. Jordan's little brother burst out of the house wearing full-body fuzzy **bear** pajamas, screeching about how someone stole his honey stash. The whole party froze. The bear kid - probably seven and absolutely zero filter - made a beeline for Maya.
"YOU" he pointed a fuzzy claw at her. "You look like you need a hug."
Maya's brain short-circuited. The popular girls were already filming. This was it. The mortification event horizon. She started backing away, slowly, like you'd escape any wild animal encounter.
Her heel caught on a **water** jug.
The splash was legendary. Maya went down hard, hat flying off, dignity evaporating faster than pool water in July. But then - small fuzzy arms wrapped around her.
The bear kid was hugging her. Actually, genuinely hugging her.
"It's okay," he whispered loudly. "I fall all the time. My mom says I'm basically a defective penguin."
Someone snorted. Then laughed. Maya looked up through dripping hair to see literally everyone cracking up - including the popular girls. But not *at* her. With her.
"Bro," Jordan called from the pool, "you're not even the right species for that metaphor!"
"BEARS ARE VERY COORDINATED" the bear-kid insisted, helping Maya up. His pajamas were soaked. He looked ridiculous. He looked awesome.
Maya's phone lay on the concrete, miraculously dry. She reached for it, then stopped. She didn't need to text her group chat anymore.
"Hey," she said to the bear, a genuine smile breaking through. "Wanna get back at Jordan?"
The bear's eyes widened. "I've been waiting my whole life for this moment."
That was the day Maya learned something unexpected about parties, bravery, and bear hugs: sometimes you just gotta let yourself fall into the deep end. Even if you're wearing your favorite hat.
