Barnaby's Swimming Hat
Barnaby was not like other bulls. While his friends loved to run and charge through fields, Barnaby loved swimming.
Every morning, he would wade into the sparkling pond behind the farm, his favorite striped hat perched carefully between his horns. The other animals laughed. "Bulls don't swim!" they would say.
One day, while playing padel with his friend Pedro the rabbit, Barnaby's favorite hat blew into the pond. It sank straight to the bottom.
"Oh no!" cried Barnaby. "That was my lucky hat!"
He dove into the cool water. Down, down, down he swam, until he reached the pond floor. There, swimming around his hat, was the most beautiful goldfish he had ever seen. Her scales sparkled like tiny stars.
"Why are you sad, big friend?" asked the goldfish.
"I lost my lucky hat," Barnaby bubbled.
The goldfish smiled. "Luck isn't in the hat. It's in your heart. You are brave enough to swim when others say you can't. You are kind enough to play games with someone small like Pedro. That is real luck."
Barnaby felt warm inside. "You're right. I don't need a hat to be special."
The goldfish returned his hat with a flick of her tail. "Keep it anyway. It looks quite dashing on you."
That day, Barnaby learned that being yourself is the greatest luck of all. And from then on, he swam proudly, striped hat and all, teaching all the other bulls that anyone can do anything they dare to try.
