Barnaby's Orange Friend

Barnaby was a small golden dog with floppy ears and the biggest dreams anyone had ever seen. Every day, he would trot to the edge of Crystal Pond and watch the other dogs swim. But Barnaby had a secret—he was afraid of water.

One sunny afternoon, something magical happened. As Barnaby sat by the pond, he spotted a tiny fish with scales as bright as an orange sunset. The goldfish swam right up to the surface and looked at him with friendly eyes.

"Hello there!" said the goldfish. "My name is Coral. Why aren't you swimming?"

Barnaby sighed. "I want to, but the water looks so big and scary."

Coral did a happy flip in the water. "That's what makes it fun! Sometimes the best adventures are the ones that seem a little scary at first."

Barnaby's tail gave a little wag. "But I don't know how."

"I'll help you!" Coral promised. "Just take it one paw at a time."

For the next week, Barnaby visited Coral every day. First, he dipped just one paw in. Then two. Soon, he was splashing around with his new friend, swimming deeper and faster than he ever imagined possible.

On Barnaby's birthday, he swam all the way to the middle of the pond where a hidden patch of orange water lilies grew. He knew Coral would love them.

"These are beautiful!" Coral exclaimed. "You swam all the way here—look how brave you've become!"

Barnaby smiled, understanding that true friendship isn't about being perfect. It's about helping each other grow, one splash at a time.

From that day on, Barnaby was known as the bravest swimming dog in the valley, and he always told scared puppies the same thing his orange friend once told him: sometimes the scariest things become the most wonderful adventures.
