Barnaby's Not-So-Scary Garden Friend
Barnaby was not like other bulls. While his friends loved to run and chase, Barnaby preferred wading through the farmer's pond, watching the little orange **goldfish** dart between lily pads. He would lower his big, gentle nose to the water and blow bubbles just to make them giggle.
One rainy afternoon, when clouds painted the sky purple, Barnaby heard a strange noise coming from the old garden shed. *Cre-e-eak. Groooan.* The other cows hid in the barn, but Barnaby's curiosity twitched his ears.
Peeking around the shed door, he saw something strange—a lumpy figure covered in mud and fallen leaves, stumbling like it had forgotten how to walk. It moaned softly.
"A **zombie**!" whispered the little goldfish, who had somehow splashed into a puddle near the shed. "Run, Barnaby! Zombies are scary!"
But Barnaby didn't run. He saw how the figure's shoulders slumped sadly, like it was lonely. Slowly, he stepped closer.
"Hello?" Barnaby said softly. "Are you lost?"
The muddy figure looked up with surprised eyes. "I... I think so," it whispered. "I was playing in the garden and fell in the mud puddle. I can't see very well."
Barnaby used his hoof to wipe away some mud. It wasn't a zombie at all—it was the farmer's granddaughter, Lily! She had been playing treasure hunt and gotten stuck.
"You're not scary," said the goldfish, now in a bucket Lily had brought outside. "You're just a muddy friend!"
Barnaby helped Lily clean up, and she told them stories about pirates and hidden treasures. From that day on, the three friends had secret adventures in the garden every afternoon.
And Barnaby learned something important: sometimes the things that seem scary at first are just friends you haven't met yet—especially when they're covered in mud.
