Barnaby's Moonlight Adventure
Leo hugged his stuffed bear tight. Barnaby had soft brown fur and one button eye that always twinkled, even in the dark. Tonight, the full moon glowed the color of a ripe orange, casting golden light across Leo's bedroom floor.
'I wish you could play with me for real,' Leo whispered, closing his eyes.
Suddenly, Barnaby's button eye blinked. Then his fuzzy paw squeezed Leo's hand!
'I've always been real, Leo,' Barnaby rumbled in a voice like warm honey. 'I was just waiting for the orange moon to wake me up.'
Outside, something sparkled in the backyard. A magical cable car made of moonlight and stardust waited for them! They climbed inside, and it carried them up, up, up into the night sky.
Below, they saw zombie fireflies dancing in slow motion. They weren't scary at all — they moved in dreamy, graceful patterns, glowing soft green against the purple sky.
'The orange moon made them sleepy and magical,' Barnaby explained. 'They dance to help children have sweet dreams.'
Leo reached out and caught one gently. It didn't try to fly away. Instead, it sprinkled glittering dust on his nose, making him giggle.
'Thank you for believing in me,' Barnaby said as the cable car brought them home. 'Friends who believe in magic can do anything together.'
Leo tucked Barnaby back into bed, his heart full of wonder. The orange moon still glowed outside, and somewhere below, the zombie fireflies kept dancing, spreading sweet dreams to children everywhere.
Leo fell asleep with a smile, knowing magic was real — as long as you had a friend to share it with.
