Barnaby's Midnight Wish

Barnaby was the gentlest bull on Clover Farm. While other bulls spent their days snorting and charging, Barnaby spent his watching butterflies dance and smelling roses bloom. The other animals laughed at him. "A bull should be tough!" they'd say. Barnaby would just smile and continue his quiet adventures.

One moonlit night, Barnaby followed a trail of sparkling fireflies deep into the woods. They led him to a secret pool he'd never seen before. The water glowed like liquid silver, reflecting a million stars above.

"Beautiful, isn't it?" whispered a tiny voice.

Barnaby looked down. Swimming near the edge was the most extraordinary goldfish he'd ever seen — shimmering scales of orange, white, and gold, with fins like delicate silk ribbons.

"I'm Goldie," said the goldfish. "This is the Wishing Pool. Once every hundred years, lightning strikes this exact spot, and for one minute, the water grants one true wish to whoever believes in magic."

Barnaby's heart fluttered. He could wish for strength to impress the other bulls. Or giant horns to look more fearsome. But as he looked at Goldie happily swimming in her magical home, he thought about what really mattered.

"I wish..." Barnaby began, but suddenly — CRACK! BOOM!

A bolt of lightning struck the center of the pool, sending up a shower of silver sparks. The water swirled with rainbow colors. Goldie nodded at him encouragingly.

"I wish to be exactly who I am," Barnaby said clearly. "Because a gentle heart is the strongest kind of heart there is."

The pool burst with golden light. When it faded, Barnaby felt different — not on the outside, but inside. He felt warm and brave and proud.

Goldie swam closer. "That was the wisest wish I've ever heard," she said with a smile. "Come back anytime, my friend."

The next morning, when the other bulls laughed at Barnaby for watching a caterpillar transform into a butterfly, he didn't feel embarrassed. Instead, he invited them to see the magic too. And one by one, even the toughest bulls learned that sometimes the strongest thing you can do is be kind.

Barnaby visited Goldie often, and the Wishing Pool remained their secret — a magical reminder that the best wishes are the ones that help us see how wonderful we already are.
