Barnaby's Magic Pond

Barnaby was a small golden dog with floppy ears and a very big problem. He was afraid of everything. Thunder made him hide under the bed. Shadows made him tremble. And most of all, he was afraid of water.

One sunny afternoon, Barnaby's best friend Lily ran to him with tears in her eyes. "Barnaby! My favorite toy boat floated into the creek! I can't swim, and Mama says I can't go in alone."

Barnaby's heart beat fast. He wanted to help, but water was scary. Still, Lily was his best friend, and friends help each other.

They walked to the creek together. Near the edge, something sparkled in the sunlight. A beautiful frog sat on a lily pad.

"Hello, little friends," the frog said. "I see you need courage. Follow me!"

The frog led them to a hidden pond behind the willow trees. The water glowed with tiny rainbow lights floating on top.

"These are special drops," the frog explained. "Each glowing drop is like a magic vitamin for your heart. The blue ones give you calm. The red ones give you strength. The yellow ones give you courage. You can collect them in your paw, and when you need them most, they'll work their magic."

Barnaby carefully dipped his paw into the shimmering water and collected three glowing yellow drops. They felt warm and tingled like tiny bubbles.

"Thank you!" Barnaby said.

At the creek, Lily's toy boat bobbed near the middle. Barnaby took a deep breath, thought of his magic drops, and stepped into the water. To his surprise, the warm tingling spread through his whole body. The water wasn't scary at all—it felt like a gentle hug!

He swam smoothly, reached the boat, and carried it back to shore. Lily cheered!

"You did it! You're brave!" she hugged him.

Barnaby realized something wonderful. The magic drops had helped him start, but the real courage had been inside his heart all along. Sometimes friends just need a little reminder of how strong they can be.

From that day on, Barnaby still visited the magic pond, but he no longer needed the courage vitamins. He had discovered the greatest magic of all: helping a friend makes you brave without any magic at all.
