Barnaby's Lightning Dash

Barnaby was a small bear with very big paws and an even bigger dream. While other bears slept through summer storms, Barnaby would sit at the mouth of his cave, watching the sky dance with streaks of brilliant white light.

"One day," he whispered, "I'll catch that lightning."

The other bears laughed. "Lightning is too fast for any bear!" they said. But Barnaby's grandmother smiled secretly. She knew something special about her grandson.

One evening, as the first storm of summer crackled across the mountains, Barnaby felt a strange tingling in his paws. His fur stood on end, and suddenly—FLASH! A bolt of lightning struck the ground right in front of him.

But instead of running away, Barnaby ran toward it. His paws moved faster than they ever had before. His heart pounded with excitement, not fear. As he dashed across the meadow, something magical happened: he was running AS FAST AS the lightning itself!

The storm's spirit appeared—a glowing wolf made of crackling energy. "You're the first bear who's ever chased me instead of hiding," the spirit said. "Why aren't you afraid?"

"Because lightning is beautiful," Barnaby said, still running alongside it. "And I wanted to see where it goes."

The spirit wolf was so touched that it gave Barnaby a gift: from that day on, the little bear could run as fast as lightning whenever someone needed help. When a forest fire threatened his home, Barnaby outran the flames to warn everyone. When a young cub was lost, he found her in a flash.

Barnaby learned that courage isn't about being fearless—it's about running toward what scares you because you believe something wonderful might happen.

And sometimes, if you're brave enough, the lightning runs right alongside you.
