Barnaby's Electric Friend
Barnaby was a very special bear. While all the other bears in the forest were brown or black, Barnaby was bright orange, like a walking sunset. He hated being different.
'I wish I looked like everyone else,' he sighed, sitting under the only palm tree in the entire forest. How it had grown there, nobody knew. It was a mystery.
One evening, as Barnaby munched on berries, a little goldfish named Gilly popped her head out of the tiny pond nearby. But this wasn't an ordinary goldfish. Gilly could talk!
'Why the long face, orange bear?' Gilly asked.
Barnaby explained how he felt like an outsider because of his unusual fur. Gilly listened carefully, then said, 'I have something magical to show you. But we must wait for the lightning.'
'The lightning?' Barnaby gasped. 'But that's scary!'
'Trust me,' said Gilly.
That night, a thunderstorm rolled in. Brilliant lightning flashed across the sky, crackling and booming. Suddenly, Gilly leaped from the pond—and began swimming through the air!
'Follow me!' she called.
Barnaby ran after the flying goldfish. Lightning struck again, and suddenly Barnaby's fur began to glow. He was lighting up the whole forest like a living lantern!
Gilly explained, 'Your orange fur isn't just different—it's magical! Only you can light the way when storms darken our forest.'
Together, Barnaby and Gilly guided lost animals home through the storm. The other bears cheered, 'Thank you, Barnaby! We were so scared until your light showed us the way!'
Barnaby beamed with pride. He had learned that being different wasn't bad at all—sometimes, it was exactly what the world needed.
From that night on, whenever lightning flashed across the sky, you could see Barnaby the orange bear and Gilly the flying goldfish, lighting up the darkness and helping anyone who needed them.
And Barnaby never wished to be like everyone else again.
