Barnaby and the Orange Pebble

Barnaby was a small brown bear with a very big problem. While all his friends loved splashing in the sparkling river, Barnaby was afraid of the water. Every time he got close, his paws would tremble.

One sunny morning, Barnaby was running through the meadow when something caught his eye. There, glimmering in the tall grass, was the most beautiful stone he had ever seen — it was bright orange, like a tiny piece of sunshine.

"Hello there, little friend," said a soft voice. Barnaby looked around, but no one was there. Then the orange pebble glowed warmly. "I'm right here!" it said. Barnaby's eyes grew wide as the stone floated gently beside him.

"I'm Penny," the pebble chimed. "And you look like you need a swimming adventure."

Barnaby shook his head. "Bears don't swim. Well, this bear doesn't."

Penny bobbed closer. "That's because no one's ever taught you the secret. Come with me!"

Curious, Barnaby followed the glowing orange stone to the riverbank. But instead of stopping at the edge, Penny floated right onto the water's surface. "Watch," she whispered.

The most magical thing happened. Where Penny touched the water, tiny orange ripples spread out, and the water began to sparkle like stardust. "Step onto my ripples," Penny said. "I'll help you."

Trembling but brave, Barnaby placed one paw, then another. To his wonder, he didn't sink. With Penny glowing ahead like an orange lantern, Barnaby took his first swimming strokes.

"You're doing it!" cheered Penny. "The real magic isn't in me, Barnaby. It's been inside you all along. I just helped you see it."

Barnaby laughed, splashing water everywhere. He was swimming! His fear had dissolved like sugar in warm tea.

That evening, as Barnaby dried off in the golden sunset, Penny spoke once more: "Sometimes we just need a little glow to believe in our own light."

Barnaby nodded, already planning tomorrow's adventure. He would help his friend Lily the rabbit learn to swim too. And maybe, just maybe, he'd share his magical orange pebble.
