Barnaby and the Orange Moon
Barnaby was a small **dog** with floppy ears and a very curious nose. He lived beside a lake, but Barnaby had never gone swimming - he was afraid of the deep **water**.
One magical night, the full moon turned perfectly round and bright **orange**, just like the fruit Mrs. Miller sometimes shared with him. Barnaby sat on the shore, watching the orange moon reflect on the dark lake, creating a glowing path across the water.
Suddenly, the orange reflection began to ripple. A creature emerged - a water horse with a mane made of river weeds and eyes like polished stones. It walked across the water as if on solid ground.
"I've been waiting for a brave **dog**," the water horse said. "Are you brave?"
Barnaby's tail tucked. "I'm afraid of water."
"Then step onto the water," said the creature. "Trust me."
Trembling, Barnaby placed one paw on the lake's surface. It held him! He was walking on water beside the magical horse.
They reached the center of the lake, where the orange moon's reflection was brightest. Fish were flying through the air like birds, and frogs played leapfrog on upside-down lily pads.
A turtle with a crystal shell swam up. "The Moon Spirit grants one wish to those who face their fears."
The orange reflection swirled upward, forming a woman made of moonlight and water.
"What does your heart desire?" she asked.
Barnaby thought of Mrs. Miller, who lived all alone. "Mrs. Miller is lonely. Can you help her?"
The Moon Spirit smiled, and orange light spread across the water. "Every night, the lake will show Mrs. Miller magical scenes of joy and friendship. She'll never feel lonely again."
As the orange moon faded back to silver, Barnaby found himself back on shore.
From that night, Mrs. Miller sat by her window, smiling as she watched magical scenes dancing on the lake. And Barnaby? He wasn't afraid of water anymore. He swam every day, knowing that courage isn't about not being afraid - it's about being afraid but doing the brave thing anyway.
Sometimes the most magical discoveries are waiting just on the other side of what scares us most.
