Barnaby and the Golden Wish
Barnaby was not like other bulls. While the other bulls on the farm would snort and charge and show off their strength, Barnaby preferred quiet afternoons in the orange grove. He loved the sweet scent of orange blossoms and the way the golden sunlight filtered through the leaves.
One warm summer afternoon, as Barnaby rested under his favorite orange tree, something magical happened. A small goldfish appeared, floating in the air beside him as if swimming through invisible water. The goldfish shimmered with scales that caught the sunlight, creating tiny rainbows all around.
"Hello, Barnaby," the goldfish said in a voice like gentle stream bubbles. "My name is Finnegan. I've been watching you, and you seem different from the other bulls."
Barnaby blinked his large brown eyes, amazed. "I can understand you! And how are you swimming through the air?"
Finnegan laughed, creating more sparkling bubbles. "I'm a magical goldfish! I can swim anywhere I wish - through water, through air, even through dreams. I visit kind hearts like yours."
The bull felt his heart warm with happiness. "The other bulls make fun of me for liking flowers and being gentle. They say bulls should be fierce and strong."
"Being gentle IS strong," Finnegan said seriously. "It takes courage to be yourself when others want you to be different."
For several weeks, Finnegan visited Barnaby daily, sharing stories of distant oceans, enchanted forests, and mountain peaks. Barnaby shared his orange grove sanctuary, and the goldfish loved sliding through the orange-scented air around the branches.
One day, trouble arrived. A storm threatened to blow down the old orange tree where Barnaby spent his happiest moments. The wind howled, and rain pounded hard. Barnaby used his mighty strength to brace against the tree trunk, holding it steady through the long, dark night.
When the storm passed and morning light returned, the orange tree stood tall and safe. The other bulls, who had sheltered safely in the barn, came out and saw what Barnaby had done.
"You saved the orange tree!" they exclaimed, amazed. "But we thought you were too gentle for strong work."
Barnaby smiled as Finnegan appeared, shimmering brightly beside his horn. "Being gentle doesn't mean being weak," the magical goldfish explained. "Barnaby used his great strength to protect what he loved. That's the bravest thing a bull can do."
From that day forward, the other bulls never teased Barnaby again. Some even joined him in the orange grove, discovering the joy of peaceful moments. And though only Barnaby could see Finnegan, the bull always felt his magical friend nearby, reminding him that true strength comes from the heart.
